PackLog Base Guide

PackLog Base is a field notebook for connecting Gear, Packs, Diary, and Field Logs into your own Outdoor History. Start by registering gear, build Packs, then keep adding Diary entries and Field Logs from hikes, camps, and trips.

Use Cases

How to use PLB

PLB can be as light as a one-line Diary or as detailed as a record with gear, places, photos, and tracks. Use it lightly or deeply depending on the day.

Keep quick Diary notes

Save photos, GPS places, area names, and URLs for favorite shops or facilities. Even a short note becomes something you can revisit later.

Review memories like an album

Saved Diary entries can be browsed sideways like a photo album, helping you follow the natural flow of a trip or hike.

Turn favorites into cards

Favorite Diary entries can be saved as Diary Cards. On iPhone and iPad, you can save or share them from the system share sheet.

Record experiences with Field Log

Keep hikes, camps, trips, and photo outings with weather, distance, time, elevation, photos, and the Pack you used.

Grow Packs and gear

Register My Gears and build Packs by purpose so what you carried and what worked becomes your own experience database.

Home

For first-time users and today’s overview

Home gathers recent Diary entries, Field Logs, Packs, and this month’s activity. When you are unsure where to start, write a Diary, build a Pack, or add a Field Log from here.

My Gears

For organizing hiking, camping, and camera gear

Use it as your personal gear shelf for backpacks, tents, cameras, cookware, car camping items, and more. Weight, photos, purchase dates, and notes help with future prep and replacement decisions.

Create Pack / My Pack

For preparing gear by hike, camp, or trip

Create loadouts for summer mountains, winter trips, tent nights, camping, car camping, and photo travel. Total weight and categories help you build Packs that fit your style.

Diary

For quick moments and favorite places

Save photos, short notes, GPS, area names, and URLs for shops or places. Meals after a hike, camp mornings, roadside stops, and good light from a photo walk can all become small records.

Field Log

For reviewing hikes, camps, and photo outings

Record place, weather, distance, activity time, elevation, photos, GPX, and the Pack you used. It helps when returning to the same mountain, camping in another season, or reviewing shooting conditions.

Discover

For learning from public examples

Browse public Gear, Packs, Field Logs, and Diary entries. Similar mountain areas, camp styles, photo goals, and trip styles can become gentle hints for your own prep.

Mountain DB

For collecting mountains you want to climb

Search mountains and manage Want to go, Favorite, and saved items. Linking Packs to mountains keeps a memory of what gear fits each destination.

Campgrounds

For organizing future campsites

Search and save campgrounds, manage places of interest, and keep facilities, booking URLs, notes, and Packs for easier camp planning.

Trip Trails

For reviewing long drives, car camping, traverses, and photo trips

Use GPX and Field Log locations to review the routes you traveled on a map. Trips, traverses, car camping routes, and photo point tours become easier to remember.

Search

For finding public records by purpose

Search public Gear, Packs, and Field Logs by keyword. You can copy useful Packs or Gear into your own data and edit from there.

Profile

For quietly seeing your accumulated history

Check your profile, rank, points, and special badges. It is less about posting a lot and more about feeling your records gradually build up.

Public and private

Gear, Packs, Diary, and Field Logs can be public or private. We recommend starting privately, then publishing only what you want to share. Public records can be viewed from Explore or shared URLs, so adjust photos and location information as needed.

Admin features

Admins see the Admin tab for operational information such as users, new registrations, and items waiting for review. Regular users do not see it.

Gear exists for experiences. Packs are preparation for departure. Field Logs and Diary entries are memories that remain after you return. Together, they gradually become your Outdoor History.
